Software Engineer, Bioinformatics Tools
The Software Engineer will develop bioinformatics tools in support of the Venter Institute’s activities in genomic assembly and annotation, resequencing, genomic medicine, environmental genomics and synthetic genomics. Successful candidates will have a BS in computer science or software engineering (MS preferred), 5+ years of bioinformatics experience including experience with BLAST and bioinformatics data resources such as GenBank and other NCBI resources, KEGG, etc.; extensive experience with Perl, BioPerl, Perl/CGI, SQL; and experience with C/C++. Domain knowledge in genomics, experience with GMOD databases and tools, and experience with web-based development using Java/J2EE are helpful. Software Engineer, J2EE
The Software Engineer will develop complex multi-tier J2EE-based applications in support of its scientific mission. The position requires: Incumbent designs, implements and conducts maintenance of n-tiered scientific applications using J2EE technology and has the ability to understand and effectively work within a complex biological domain, interfacing with scientists and understanding their needs. Successful candidates will have a BS in computer science or software engineering (MS preferred), 5+ years of Java software development experience in a complex, multi-developer environment, 3+ years of J2EE experience (specifically JSP, Struts and EJBs including MDBs), 2+ years of bioinformatics experience or significant experience in other complex scientific domain. Familiarity with BLAST, NCBI, and other bioinformatics resources; experience with Asynchronous and Service Oriented Architectures/Web Services, XML, SQL, Perl-cgi, C/C++, version control and configuration management (e.g., cvs or subversion), JBoss or other J2EE application servers, and development in mixed Windows/Linux environment are helpful. Senior Software Engineer, Bioinformatics Tools
The Senior Software Engineer will develop bioinformatics tools in support of its scientific mission. Successful candidates will have a MS in computer science or software engineering, 10+ years of experience developing algorithmically rich applications, expert-level capability developing in C and C++ under Unix, and ability to contribute technically as an individual as well as to lead small teams. Experience with Bioinformatics applications and data (e.g., BLAST, phrap/phred/consed, arachne, Genbank, KEGG), version control and configuration management (e.g., CVS or subversion), Perl, Java, relational database, grid and web technologies a plus. Bioinformatics Applications Engineer
The incumbent will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and developing bioinformatics tools in support of the Venter Institute’s activities in genomic assembly and annotation, resequencing, genomic medicine, environmental genomics and synthetic genomics. The Bioinformatics Application Engineer will provide support for LIMS users by performing specialized reports and data updates on LIMS data and provide first level of support for user of JLIMS and other tools. This position will execute standard or specialized analyses of genomic data produced at the Venter Institute in support of research activities and work closely with software staff to integrate pipelines into a production work flow. Successful candidates will have a BS in a scientific discipline (MS Preferred), 1 year of bioinformatics experience with BLAST and bioinformatics data resources such as GenBank and other NCBI resources, KEGG, etc. and the ability to develop/maintain Perl and/or shell scripts.
